We design and install custom solar systems for WNY homeowners that can cut 60–90% of your monthly electric bill costs.
A note from our founder
Hey, I'm Kyle.
President of VSG Power
On this page, I'm going to walk you through:
Why batteries are a growing topic
Who it actually makes sense for
And how to decide if it's right for you
If solar makes sense, great. If it doesn't, you'll know that too.
"I knew there was a better way to do this. Not bigger. Better."
I've been in solar and electrical for 10 years. I worked with the founder to grow Buffalo Solar into one of the larger operations in WNY. Then I moved into national-scale solar engineering at Jordan Energy.
And in 2023, I came back. Because after seeing how the industry was operating, I knew there was a better way to do this.
Clear communication. Honest numbers. Systems that actually perform. Better work culture. Empowered crew members.
It's not the impressive projects we built. But the environment we create for our customers and employees.

So Why Consider Battery Backup in WNY?
Power outages in Western New York aren't rare. They're predictable enough.
In late 2025 alone, one wind storm impacted 49,300 National Grid customers, and a separate wind and ice event left about 76,000 customers without power. A meaningful chunk of the region, and it is exactly why backup conversations are becoming more common.

But battery backup isn't for everyone.
If a power outage is just "annoying," you probably don't need to spend the money. Battery backup makes the most sense when an outage creates real risk or real cost.
These are strong reasons we've seen where it's worth it:
Your basement depends on a sump pump and you cannot risk water damage
Your home needs power for heat controls (furnace or boiler)
You have medical needs that cannot wait
You work from home and an outage means lost income or missed deadlines
You keep meaningful food storage (fridge, freezer, chest freezer) and want to avoid loss
A home battery is built for one job: keep the critical loads running automatically so your home still functions when the grid does not.
Not the selling point, but you should know: batteries are starting to get rewarded for helping the grid
Today, a home battery is mainly about peace of mind. But there are also early "grid support" programs that can pay you for letting your battery discharge during peak demand. For example, National Grid's Connected Solutions battery program says customers can earn incentives (they cite an average of $180 per year) by supporting the grid during peak events.
I don't always recommend to buy a battery because you want a small annual check or you are hoping TOU savings will 'pay for it.' Buy it because you want your home to keep working during outages. If the grid programs help on top, great. That is upside, but not the core reason.
So what does a battery install with VSG actually look like?
Lower, more predictable electric costs for the next 20+ years.
Custom-designed system sized to offset your usage. Installed on roof or ground.
A system that performs the way it was sold.
Proper design, permitting, installation, and commissioning handled by the same accountable team.
Visibility into what your system is doing.
Once installed, we provide you with an app-based monitoring so you can track production in real time.
No surprise equipment costs if anything breaks down.
With a manufacturer warranty of 10-25 years depending on your product, new equipment will be shipped to your home if anything ever goes wrong.
Few surprises during a complex project.
Every project comes to my table and I approve of it before we sign the customer.
Because you're working with VSG
15-Year Workmanship Warranty
We're here to guarantee your system will stay operational, so we give you 15 years of warranty!
Electricians on Every Job
We're electricians who do solar. Every person on your roof is licensed and trained.
Expert Guidance Before You Install
You talk to an expert with an engineering mindset, not a salesperson with a script, before you sign.
Direct Access to the Team
If you have any questions, you call or text me or my team for any issues. You will never speak to a call center.
If we can't design a system that clearly beats your current path on total cost, we'll tell you not to do it.
Our customers don't love us for having the best installs. It's that we care.
They were communicative, gave me a fair price, and were patient with me...

Our Process
What happens after you reach out?
Discovery Call
30 minutes. Before anything starts, we learn about your home, your outage history, what you want to keep running, and your goals.
Site Assessment & Custom Proposal
We evaluate your roof, shading, and electrical panel. Then we build a real proposal - system size, production estimates, costs, and financing options.
Your Decision
Take your time. Ask questions. Compare quotes. No pressure.
Permitting & Installation
We handle everything with the town, utility, and NYSERDA. Install is usually 1-2 days for residential.
Activation & Ongoing Support
Town signs off, utility connects you, system goes live. From there, we're a call or text away for long-term support.
There are 2 ways we can help you!
We understand every homeowner is in a different spot, so our team is crafted to meet you where you're at, and guide you through our design call or continuously helping you learn!
Want to Keep Researching?
We've put together guides, tools, and breakdowns to help you learn at your own pace.
P.S. From your final decision to system activation, expect 4-12 weeks. The earlier you start, the more likely you're protected before the next storm.
