A note from our founder
Hey, I'm Kyle.
President of VSG Power
On this page, I'm going to walk you through:
Why solar even matters in Western New York
Who it actually makes sense for
And how to decide if it's right for you
If solar makes sense, great. If it doesn't, you'll know that too.
"I knew there was a better way to do this. Not bigger. Better."
I've been in solar and electrical for 10 years. I worked with the founder to grow Buffalo Solar into one of the larger operations in WNY. Then I moved into national-scale solar engineering at Jordan Energy.
And in 2023, I came back. Because after seeing how the industry was operating, I knew there was a better way to do this.
Clear communication. Honest numbers. Systems that actually perform. Better work culture. Empowered crew members.
It's not the impressive projects we built. But the environment we create for our customers and employees.

President of VSG Power
We're proud of what we've built so far. And we're just getting started!
So back to the point, why is solar even worth considering?
You likely came here because of your electric bill. You want to lower it, and that makes sense. And there are many ways to do that.
But here's the thing: your electric bill isn't actually the problem.
And nobody's really talking about this.
You can use the exact same amount of electricity month to month. But if the rate goes up? Your bill goes up too.
That's what's been happening quietly and consistently.
The real problem is your electric rate.
| Year | National Grid Delivery Rate ($/kWh) | % Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | $0.068 | -- |
| 2020 | $0.072 | +5.9% |
| 2022 | $0.089 | +23.6% |
| 2024 | $0.112 | +25.8% |
We've seen more rate increases in the past 6 years than in the previous 25. And across the country? It's even worse.
This is the problem we solve.
It's not "how do I use less electricity." But: how do I stop paying the rates they decide to charge me?
The cheapest electricity is the one you make yourself.
When you buy power from the grid, you're paying for generation, transmission, and corporate profits. When you generate it yourself, you just pay for the equipment.
Production at cost
Solar energy costs about 6-8 cents per kWh to produce. The utility charges you 20+ cents.
Locked-in Rate
Your cost is fixed from day one. Inflation and rate hikes can't affect the costs.
But solar isn't for everyone.
It's more than just homes with lots of sun, low shade, and good roof angles. You'd be surprised at the number of other reasons that determine if this makes sense.
If you fall into one of these categories, you're probably a good fit:
The most common theme amongst our best clients: They all want predictable, long-term control over their costs. Not, perfect sunshine, and perfect roof angles.
So what does a solar install with VSG actually look like?
Lower, more predictable electric costs for the next 20+ years.
Custom-designed system sized to offset your usage. Installed on roof or ground.
A system that performs the way it was sold.
Proper design, permitting, installation, and commissioning handled by the same accountable team.
Visibility into what your system is doing.
Once installed, we provide you with an app-based monitoring so you can track production in real time.
No surprise equipment costs if anything breaks down.
With a manufacturer warranty of 10-25 years depending on your product, new equipment will be shipped to your home if anything ever goes wrong.
Few surprises during a complex project.
Every project comes to my table and I approve of it before we sign the customer.
Because you're working with VSG
15-Year Workmanship Warranty
We're here to guarantee your system will stay operational, so we give you 15 years of warranty!
Electricians on Every Job
We're electricians who do solar. Every person on your roof is licensed and trained.
Expert Guidance Before You Install
You talk to an expert with an engineering mindset, not a salesperson with a script, before you sign.
Direct Access to the Team
If you have any questions, you call or text me or my team for any issues. You will never speak to a call center.
If we can't design a system that clearly beats your current path on total cost, we'll tell you not to do it.
Our Process
What happens after you reach out?
Discovery Call
30 minutes. Before anything starts, we learn about your home, your outage history, what you want to keep running, and your goals.
Site Assessment & Custom Proposal
We evaluate your roof, shading, and electrical panel. Then we build a real proposal - system size, production estimates, costs, and financing options.
Your Decision
Take your time. Ask questions. Compare quotes. No pressure.
Permitting & Installation
We handle everything with the town, utility, and NYSERDA. Install is usually 1-2 days for residential.
Activation & Ongoing Support
Town signs off, utility connects you, system goes live. From there, we're a call or text away for long-term support.
There are 2 ways we can help you!
We understand every homeowner is in a different spot, so our team is crafted to meet you where you're at, and guide you through our design call or continuously helping you learn!
Want to Keep Researching?
We've put together guides, tools, and breakdowns to help you learn at your own pace.
P.S. From your final decision to system activation, expect 4-12 weeks. The earlier you start, the more likely you're protected before the next storm.
